Lucy Buffett Bringing LuLu’s to Destin

Destin, FL - Lucy Buffett, owner of LuLu’s Gulf Shores, plans to open her next restaurant in Destin, Florida. The Gulf Shores, Alabama landmark restaurant, Lucy affectionately calls the “Mother Ship”, is a 15,000 square foot dining destination currently serving over 4,000 guests a day during the peak summer tourist season.

“We’re going to spread the Gumbo Love,” she says, with plans to cross the state line opening LuLu’s Destin in the summer of 2015.  Destin, one of the top emerging tourist destinations in the United States, was an obvious choice for Buffett.

“My family spent lots of time on the Florida Panhandle and it feels like an extension of home to me. Destin has always been a part of my vision for a second LuLu’s. Our new location is ideal for what we do. There’s a bridge for good luck and beautiful water views,” claims Buffett, referring to the fact that all of her restaurants have been by a bridge. “All it needs is some great food and fun. I’m committed to providing an excellent and authentic Gulf Coast experience for all of my guests.  That has always been one of the keys to our success.”

The original LuLu’s, a small water-front dive, opened on Weeks Bay in Fairhope, Alabama in the late ‘90’s. In 2003, it was time for a change so in her typical Crazy Sista style, Lucy picked up the party and moved on – literally loading the restaurant and crew onto a barge for a storied cruise to her now famous location on the Intracoastal Canal in Gulf Shores.

Creative chef, business woman, author and story teller, Lucy Buffett is more than a sibling of famous troubadour Jimmy; just as her business, LuLu’s, is more than a restaurant. Her love for living the “good life” has led to loyal followers of her LuLu’s and Crazy Sista brands, which include clothing, cookbooks, Bloody Mary mix, dried seasonings, hot sauces and the new Crazy Sista Honey Ale, all in high demand.

Buffett will be opening the Destin location within the Legendary Marine complex, at the base of the Mid-Bay Bridge. Like her Gulf Shores landmark, the restaurant will feature a family-pleasing complex with sandy “beach” areas, great views and a winning combination of locally sourced food and live music.

“We know that the LuLu’s model, with its fun coastal charm and a spirited atmosphere, is a perfect fit for Destin locals and visitors alike,” says Peter Bos, developer.

In Alabama, LuLu’s has an annual economic impact in excess of $20 million dollars along with its high-profile community involvement and philanthropy. Buffett intends to have the same impact in Destin beginning with the creation of over 200 jobs, along with the intention of the same active community participation and support.

“I’m looking forward to being a good neighbor with the locals in Destin. I’ve always believed in taking care of the folks who take care of LuLu’s.” Buffett says.

Earlier this year, Destin was in TripAdvisor’s 2014 rankings for top emerging destinations in the United States. Known for its sugar-white sand beaches and sparkling emerald waters along the Florida Gulf Coast, Destin was ranked in the number three position among destinations including Kailua-Kona, Hawaii; Anchorage, Alaska and Bar Harbor, Maine.

About Lucy Buffett
Creative chef, business woman, author and story teller, Lucy Buffett is more than a sibling of famous troubadour Jimmy; just as her business, LuLu’s, is more than a restaurant. As creator of the LuLu’s brand, Lucy has taken her initial dream, LuLu’s Gulf Shores, to become a destination in itself serving over half a million customers a year. From restaurants, branded merchandise, cookbooks, Bloody Mary Mix, seasonings, sauces, a children’s book and the newly launched Crazy Sista Honey Ale beer, Lucy Buffett combines true Southern coastal graciousness and authenticity with the nerve of a successful entrepreneur. Known as Crazy Sista for good reason, Lucy marches to the beat of her own drum; she plays nice, but usually by rules she has bent, broken or reinvented.

Coastal Alabama's Gulfapalooza

CGMTA to Host First Gulfapalooza This Fall

Gulf Shores, Ala. – August 22, 2014 – The Central Gulf Marine Trades Association (CGMTA) has announced plans to host the first Gulfapalooza, a three-day social event for transient boaters to be held on the Alabama Gulf Coast, November 12-14, 2014.

Gulfapalooza will offer networking opportunities with other boaters, as well as the chance to enjoy some of the many amenities available on the Gulf Coast. The event will also give CGMTA members a chance to demonstrate their capabilities for boating support in the area.

According to CGMTA President John Fitzgerald, Gulfapalooza is open to all boaters, but the association is specifically targeting those who are navigating south along the Great Loop. These boaters travel down the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway in the fall and pass through on their way to cross the Gulf of Mexico.

“Traditionally, only a handful of them slow down long enough to enjoy our beautiful Alabama coast,” Fitzgerald said. “We’re hoping Gulfapalooza will encourage these boaters to dock in one of our member marinas for a few days and explore.”

Eddy Johnsen and Tom Conrad have completed the Great Loop, and the association has enlisted their help with planning the event.

“Those of us who are in the process of completing or have already completed the Great Loop are a tight-knit group, and we look forward to any opportunity to get together and share stories and advice and to socialize with each other,” Johnsen said. “We’re excited to get another chance to reconnect with some of our fellow Loopers in November.”

CGMTA is a non-profit organization created to represent the recreational marine industry by promoting the strength of the regional boating environment; advocating on issues that affect the boating community; and providing networking opportunities for its members. For more information or to register for Gulfapalooza, please visit www.cgmta.org/gulfapalooza or contact Ashley Rainer at arainer@saundersyacht.com or (251) 981-3700.
